The Garden, located at the Rhode Island Farm Incubator, is a living outdoor classroom designed to educate people on how to provide for their basic needs, on a small scale, close to where they live, whether that be a yard, leased land or community garden. It demonstrates this by providing seasonally available, organic vegetables and herbs for its garden manager as well as a small CSA program. It’s a simple model for growing healthy, nutritious food, that people today as well as future generations can copy and adapt to their own lives.
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for community supported agriculture. A CSA directly connects people to the farm their food comes from. By paying an upfront subscription fee, members share the risks and rewards of farming. In exchange they receive a weekly box of fresh, organic, nutrient rich produce and the opportunity to connect with like minded people.
Our Fall CSA will begin the first week of October and run through the last week of November 2020. By using row covers to help extend the growing season and relying on storage crops like pumpkins, winter squash, sweet potatoes etc. we hope to have a bountiful harvest through the end of November. The cost is $200 upfront per crop share (box) or $30 / week. We encourage folks to split up shares among families and friends if desired and the boxes can be picked up at the farm in North Kingstown each Tuesday.
We hope to offer a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs including but not limited to: broccoli, swiss chard, carrots, beets, lettuce, kale, pumpkins, squash, sweet potatoes, radishes, mesclun mix, spinach, etc.
The Garden is located at The Rhode Island Farm Incubator, 140 Exeter Rd, North Kingstown, RI and shares land with Shewatuck Farm. Please note Google thinks we are located in Exeter however the correct address is North Kingstown.
