Our Market Garden, located at Shewatuck Farm, is a living outdoor classroom designed to demonstrate how to provide for our basic needs, on a small scale, close to where we live, whether that be a yard, leased land or community garden. It demonstrates this by providing seasonally available, vegetables and herbs for its staff as well as a CSA program. It’s a simple model for growing healthy, nutritious food, that people today as well as future generations can copy and adapt to their own lives.
What is a CSA?
CSA stands for community supported agriculture. A CSA directly connects people to the farm their food comes from. By paying an upfront subscription fee, members share the risks and rewards of farming. In exchange they receive a weekly box of fresh, nutrient rich produce and the opportunity to connect with like minded people.
Our spring CSA will begin May 4th, 2021 and run for eight weeks through June 29th after which we will transition to our summer CSA program. The cost is $200 upfront per crop share (box) or $30 / week. We encourage folks to split up shares among families and friends if desired and the boxes can be picked up at the farm in North Kingstown or in Providence each Tuesday. Delivery is available for people in the North Kingstown, East Greenwich, Coventry area for an extra $5-10 weekly fee, depending on the situation.
This spring we hope to offer a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs including but not limited to: shiitake mushrooms, Asian greens, leeks, sweet peppers, broccoli, swiss chard, green beans, beets, lettuce, kale, radishes, turnips, sorrel, mesclun mix, spinach, pea and sunflower shoots etc. as well as other edible flowers and herbs.
